As we were leaving Gas Bay, I saw this guy watching the surf. I quickly fired off this shot – he probably didn’t realise how he looked!. I am sure there are far better captions – it is calling out for one.

I have not attempted to use long exposures when photographing surfers in the past. However yesterday I accidentally moved a dial while taking shots and set the camera up “incorrectly”. To my surprise some shots looked good (but not many). Today I tried to repeat it, this time concentrating on my technique. I was able to improve the “keeper” rate. I like the way these type of shots convey the sense of speed and spray surfers encounter – something that is missing from more typical surfing shots.
