City alley

Last time I was in the Perth CBD I spotted this interesting alley. I liked the contrast between the fashion on the right and the modern building of glass and steel compared to the empty sherry bottle and graffiti and old brick wall on the left. The locked gate is also very strong visual element.

I can’t tell you why but I think this may be one of my favourite photos you’ve taken.

    • Thanks Riss. There’s a lot going on in this photo – the contrast between the two sides – fashion vs graffiti and street drinking. But the brick wall is reflected in the shop window, and the colors in the shop window are in the graffiti! The gate is a very strong element – it was what caught my eye initially. The photo isn’t quite symmetrical, but neither is the gate and it seems to balance it. And the lane behind – what is down there? The gate is shutting you out, but the diagonal lines take you there.
